Memories from an older member

Thank you Linda Johnson for these memory logs from your earlier caving days.  Now - A plea to present members, yes you can do this also. As editor I am always looking for trip reports, it don't need it to be long, just factual - with a little bit of humour if it happened. So, in the next edition I can look forward to some 2019 trip memories?  ... Yes???

11/12/82. Craig a Finnon: Derek, Sharn, Stu, Me, Chris, Charlie and Mousse.      .

Beautiful cave - Nearly as nice as Otter - "for long walking passages" - a lot of crawling - nothing technically difficult. Went to the end but not up all the extensions. Sharn and I went in Helictite Passage (didn't tell others) beautiful.

23/1/83.  Large Pot:   RRCPC trip - Hugh, Peter, Andy, Frank, Stu, Chris and Me.        .

Charlie went in but came out after entrance pitch. Had difficulty with crawl + head of 2nd. Pitch - he went in head first. Wondered what was happening - only came along 'cos I'd told Jim N. I was doing it! - so pleased. Good trip, felt fresh - slowish. Not well organised R.R. sat waiting for tackle in longish stooping passage way instead of getting on. Bad belay on one of the pitches - shortish. Awkward life lining some of the pitches coming out.  Frank got stuck on 2nd. pitch (from top). Helped tackle but didn't rig  Pleased!

Mon. 3th. May: Penyghent Pot:   Simon, Body, Andy Smith, Chris, Charlie, Stu, Me.

Took 4  ladders and one rope (I think!) - rigged first pitch, free climbed to big pitch - abseiled down pitch before that - waste of time, much easier if free climbed. Laddered big 80' and free climbed most of rest. Bottomed. Coming out more difficult - manage except for one after big pitch, had life line and free climbed it but had difficulty for last 15' - light fading! Andy helped me up it. Crawl at beginning not very pleasant nor the stooping passage. Lovely cave - changes a lot on the way down, interesting, challenging.
