Single Rope
Techniques
The club has ordered 1,000 ft. of 10mm Super Braidline double plait terylene rope for single rope technique use ONLY. Vernon Unsworth, George ‘Boz’ Bosnyak and Frank Croll have been appointed to look after the ropes. Please let them know immediately if any damage is spotted on these ropes. (Or suspected damage). Recent tests have shown that similar ropes have lost nearly 50% of their ultimate strength within 12 months, down from 2,0OO kilos to just over 1,000 kilos (approx 1 ton breaking strain). it is planned to test the ropes before 12 months use. It is also planned to manufacture special tackle bags for carrying these ropes.
SOME DO'S AND DON'TS.
1) DO have plenty of practice above ground before
difficulties present themselves on a wet pitch underground.
2) USE some form of protection for the
rope. (tackle bags et.) at the head of pitches where a lot of friction occurs.
3) KEEP ropes 'out’ of mud, where
possible, it being an ideal grinding paste.
4) DO not prolong exposure to strong
sunlight as this causes loss of strength.
5) KEEP away from alkaline from miners lamps.
6) DO check your life insurance policy!
7) REMEMBER. Fatal accidents have occured using single rope techniques, but used correctly
there should be no problems.
